I have a new favorite restaurant.
Usually, people come to me for restaurant suggestions and ideas, but every once in a blue moon someone will have a restaurant they want to take me to. And sometimes, I’ve never even heard of it.

Ichi Umi is one such place.
It’s a Japanese sushi and seafood buffet, but you don’t even know what that means until you go. They have EVERYTHING. Everything. And most of it comes in tiny pieces so you can try it all. The buffet is one long row of white plates, separated by sushi on one end, cold selections in the middle, and warm food on the end. There’s also a self-serve dumpling station, fruit bar, crepe station AND a giant table of mini desserts. I could not believe my eyes.
I couldn’t tell you all the things I tried. I remember bacon-wrapped asparagus, lots of uni and tuna (my faves), all kinds of fish – both cooked and raw, spare ribs, different salads, and of course SUSHI! A thousand types of sushi, sashimi and nigiri to try. Out of all the things I had, there was only one roll I didn’t like, but I couldn’t tell you for the life of me what it was, so you’re just going to have to try it for yourself. The entire menu is on their web site, if you’re curious.

It’s kind of pricey ($30/person for dinner) but when you consider what you’re getting, it’s not so bad.
Go there now. And when I have visitors next, you know what’s up.

$30 is pricey?? i think R would like that place. BTW hopefully i’ll be in town this Wed with a friend of mine and maybe her sister(hope not, it’ll be a pain). if she cancels i think i’m just go go there myself and hit a few stores and yummy treats:)

I mean expensive as in not everyone wants to spend $30 on dinner all the time, but I think this place is totally worth it. You should check it out.

I love buffets! Its a great way to try new foods. I did an Indian food buffet one time for a class in college, very interesting but also very worth it because you can try many different things since going into it I really knew nothing about.
Once again your pictures made me hungry! I need to stop reading your blog before lunch!

$30 is nothing for a buffet! Thank you for sharing this, I’ve been looking for an acceptable all you can eat sushi place in the city for a while.

Two things: First, I also have a friend who goes by the title MB (stands for Michael Black, pretty cool guy).
Second, I am so jealous, that sushi restaurant looks wonderfully AMAZING. I’m going to have to start taking more pictures of where I’m eating. Do you ever feel weird taking pictures where you go?

Haha, yes, sometimes I do feel very weird. One time I was at a fancy pizza place taking pictures of the pizza and the guy next to my table leaned over and was like, “I’m so glad I’m not the only person who does that!” But the more I do not, the easier it gets. :)

If I only wasn’t so darn allergic to seafood…
